How auto-delisting works
When any channel reports a sale, SECND marks the item sold and queues a delist for every other channel it is live on. Most delists complete within seconds. Failures are retried and surfaced rather than swallowed, because a silent delist failure is the one thing that produces a double sale.

Why this is the feature that matters
Crosslisting increases your exposure and your risk in the same motion. Six listings mean six chances to sell and six chances to sell something you no longer have. Cancelling a marketplace order is not a neutral event: it costs you the sale, it can cost you a defect on your seller account, and on some platforms repeated cancellations affect search placement for everything else you list.
So the honest way to evaluate any crosslisting tool is not how many marketplaces it publishes to. It is how quickly and reliably it takes listings down.
What happens, in order
- 1
A sale is detected
Either the marketplace notifies us, or a connected POS reports a floor sale, or you mark the item sold manually.
- 2
The inventory record is marked sold
This happens first and immediately. The item is now unavailable regardless of what any individual channel thinks.
- 3
Delists are queued for every other channel
One job per live listing. Queuing rather than firing sequentially means one slow marketplace does not hold up the others.
- 4
Each delist is attempted
API channels are called directly. Extension-based channels act through your browser session, which is why they can be slower.
- 5
Failures retry with backoff
Rate limits and transient marketplace errors are normal. Retries are automatic rather than something you have to notice.
- 6
Anything unresolved is surfaced
A listing that genuinely cannot be removed appears in delist history with the reason, so you can act rather than assume it worked.
How fast, realistically
| Channel type | Typical delist latency | What can slow it |
|---|---|---|
| API marketplace | Seconds | Marketplace rate limits, API incidents |
| Connected POS (Square, Shopify) | Seconds | POS webhook delivery delays |
| Extension-based marketplace | Longer, and needs a browser session | Extension not installed, not signed in, machine asleep |
| Manual mark-as-sold | Immediate on save | Nothing — you are the trigger |
Edge cases worth knowing
- Simultaneous sales: if two buyers purchase within the same moment, no system can prevent both. Cancel the later one and, where the marketplace allows, explain rather than ignore it.
- Partial quantity: for multi-quantity products, a sale decrements stock rather than delisting, and the listing comes down when stock reaches zero.
- Cancelled orders: if a buyer cancels, the item can be relisted. It is not silently returned to stock, because a cancellation and a return are different events with different handling.
- Manual marketplace edits: if you delete a listing directly on the marketplace, SECND reconciles on the next sync rather than fighting you.
How to monitor it
Delist history records every attempt, its channel, its outcome and its error where applicable. Checking it occasionally is the cheapest insurance in a crosslisting operation — a channel that has been quietly failing for a week is a problem you want to find before a buyer does.
Frequently asked questions
Does auto-delisting work on the free plan?
Yes. Sale detection and automatic delisting are on the free plan, because a crosslisting tool without delisting is actively harmful rather than merely limited.
What if I sell an item in my shop with no POS connected?
Mark it sold in SECND — from the register, by scanning the tag, or manually. That triggers the same delist queue as any other sale.
Can I turn delisting off for a specific channel?
You control which channels an item is published to, and unpublishing removes it from that channel. Selectively disabling delisting while staying listed is not a supported configuration, because it reintroduces exactly the risk the feature exists to remove.
What happens if two tools are both trying to delist?
They race, retry against each other, and generate confusing marketplace errors. During a migration, enable delisting in exactly one tool.
